The Frost House, Circa 1887, is located in the heart of the Main Street Historic District and featured on the historic walking tour of Lewiston. The Frost House was considered to be one of the best examples of shingle style architecture in the State of Maine. Designed by world renowned architects, Charles Sumner Frost in conjunction with Henry Ives Cobb for his father, local lumber baron, A.E. Frost. The construction was overseen by noted Maine architect G.L. Coombs. It was also the boyhood home of Frederick G. Payne, Jr., Governor of Maine from 1949-1959 and U.S. Senator (1953-1959). Frost designed many buildings located on the National Historic Register, including the Maine State Building at Poland Spring, Chicago's Navy Pier, and multiple mansions in Lake Forest, Illinois. The home boasts many original features including wavy glass, a turret, tin ceiling, impressive period molding, 10 foot ceilings, oversized original doors, multiple stained glass windows, hardwood floors throughout, including a locally sourced oak and bird's eye maple, a three bay soap stone sink in the basement, 4 original fireplaces and an antique cook stove. Architect Frost even designed the one-of-a-kind door knobs and hinges on the wooden doors. This historic home has been lovingly restored and borders the Bates College Campus, is less than a mile to CMMC and St. Mary's Hospital, the Androscoggin Riverside Trail, Lewiston Farmer's Market, L/A Art Walk and the newly proposed site for the YMCA. The home includes a fully fenced yard with mature perennials including raspberries & blackberries. The home is currently a 6 bedroom residence but is city approved and easily converted to a two-family. The property is zoned residential/professional. With its high visibility, it has unlimited potential. The hom
