Discovery Islands Acreage with Small Cabin
Owen Bay is located on the south side of Sonora Island on Okisolo Channel, just above Hole in the Wall. Owen Bay has a long history; at one point it was a thriving coastal community of about 1200 people and home to a school and general store. It has evolved into a quiet, coastal vacation and recreation community with a small complement of full-time residents. There are government dock facilities located in the bay. This island retreat is situated on a beautifully forested 2.81 acres in Owen Bay. This is an inland property with quick access via local road to private moorage facilities in Springer Pt, or a leisurely 10-15 minute walk from the Government Dock in Owen Bay. The property is nicely forested with mature firs and cedars – some of which could be used to mill timber for future structures. The property has a gradual slope to the east with attractive mossy rock and open forest features. The home is perched atop a high bluff, creating the feel of living in the forest with a bird’s eye view and is situated to benefit from direct southern exposure. The house is a comfortable, west-coast style structure with 600sqft on the main floor plus a 300sqft loft. A patio deck extends across the front and down one side of the home. The home has a metal roof and lots of windows which makes it very bright and inviting with the southern exposure. The stove and fridge operate on propane and there is also a 4kw gas generator. A freestanding woodstove in the living room is the primary source of heat. Domestic water is sourced from a licensed creek and stored in a 4000 gallon reservoir above the cabin. The water then gravity feeds to the cabin. Above the reservoir is a utility building which accommodates a solar panel, a bank of batteries with an inverter and a 12 volt Pelton wheel which provides hydro-electric power for a number of months throughout the year.
