Former Dream Home of Country Music Legends George Jones and Tammy Wynette This 6390 sqft two story home was built in 1902 by lumber magnate H.B. Carter, who entertained his friends William Jennings Bryan, Thomas Edison and Teddy Roosevelt as they visited the area. A more recent owner, Realtor Bill Loftin, entertained Governor Ronald Reagan at this neo-classical colonnaded home located just south of Lakeland, Florida. The most well known owners were George Jones and Tammy Wynette, who married in 1969, bought the home and moved to Lakeland, FL in 1970 at the height of their dual stardom as Mr. and Mrs. Country Music. This is home for us, Wynette told the Tampa Tribune in 1971. It's the only place we want to be. We became a fixture of the neighborhood, whose residents treated us like people, not celebrities. I loved that. At that time, I was happier than I'd ever been, Jones later wrote in his autobiography. Outside on the over 6 acre grounds, George and Tammy held free concerts for the locals whenever their famous country friends, such as Porter Wagner and Johnny Cash, would come to visit, which was often. Located on the nothern section of the property is a Dressage Arena and a horse barn complete with four Oversized Stalls, Feed Room, Tack Room and Office. Take a walk around these magnificent historical grounds and you will agree with Tammy Wynette. This is the only place you'll want to be!
