The building was built in 1929 as the headquarter office of the New York Telephone Company. It was converted into apartments in 2008 by Beyer Blinder Belle, the same firm behind the restoration of Grand Central Terminal and the renovation of the Domino Sugar Factory in Williamsburg. Moreover, the BellTel Lofts is considered Brooklyn's first skyscraper and is a prime example of the art-deco style designed by Ralph Walker, who was named architect of the century by the American Institute of Architects. As a result of 365 Bridge Street's important historical and architectural significance, it was voted a landmark building in 2004.
